Maddie is
still reeling from recognizing the golden-eyed man
when another voice speaks up -- it's a woman's voice,
every bit as unnaturally smooth and slick as his...
And she knows this voice in an even deeper
way than she had known him.
The memory of
the person -- the thing -- to which that
voice belongs floods her mind, striking terror down
to the very depths of her heart. This woman had
killed her before -- had killed her many, many times.
And judging from that smile, judging from the glint
of malice in her eyes... She plans to do it again.
Maddie's mind
struggles to hold onto reason, struggles to hold onto
reality, to hold onto control... But she can't do it.
Maddie shatters.
